China Clay Producers Association
Kaolin companies operating in middle Georgia founded The China
Clay Producers Association (CCPA) in 1978. The group was organized
to advance and encourage the development and production of kaolin-based
products, and to work together with the people of Georgia in the
communities where the mineral is mined and products manufactured.
OBJECTIVES:
To promote the common business interest of producers of china
clay and the development of coordinated policies which assure
the industry will continue to provide jobs and contribute to the
Georgia economy;
To inform members of proposed legislation, regulatory actions
and other matters affecting the kaolin industry; and
To maintain the industrys strong community commitment,
which has been the trademark of the kaolin industry for more than
four generations.
MEMBER COMPANIES:
Four member companies make up the CCPA:
IMERYS, Atlanta, GA
BASF,
Gordon, GA
KaMin Performance Minerals
Macon, GA
Thiele Kaolin Company
Sandersville, GA
COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENT:
CCPA members are committed to taking steps to preserve our natural
resources
for future generations. Our environmental projects include recycling,
refuse and waste reduction efforts, landfill minimization, pollution
prevention efforts and land reclamation. In addition, CCPA is
working with the University of Georgia to improve timber growth
on reclaimed land. Since 1969, ninety percent of all land mined
has been or is in the process of being reclaimed. It is the goals
of association members to reclaim every acre mined and return
the land to a productive use.
Thanks to the industrys land reclamation policy, areas
which were once kaolin mines have been converted to parks, pasture
land, lakes, recreational areas, timberland, and some farm land.
